Dorcas Women's Group

 Mrs. Carmen Ristow

"In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which translated is Dorcas) who was always doing good and helping the poor." Acts 9:36

The women of Dorcas are members of Zion who serve the congregation in many ways, each using her individual talents.  Our tasks are many, but we know that many hands make the load light.  We have also discovered both joy and fun in doing ordinary tasks for the Lord.

We meet in the church basement regularly on the second Tuesday of each month from September through May at 7:00 pm. Our meetings begin with a short devotion led by Pastor Ristow.  During our business meetings we try to organize and accomplish many tasks that are needed for the Zion congregation and around the church building. We manage to intertwine work, fellowship (including lots of laughter), and refreshments throughout the evening.  It is a great opportunity to serve the Lord, deepen friendships, and make new friends.  We welcome visitors and new members at any meeting.

Our women are on committees that take care of the paraments and set up communion and the flowers on the altar.  Dorcas Women also take care of decorating the church for festivals, especially Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We provide Christian themed greeting cards for sale at cost during the year.  Welcome cards are sent to guests who visit Zion.  Members of our Sunshine committee send appropriate cards and visit the sick, elderly, and new members.  We take care of the kitchen and see that it is clean, orderly, and supplied with the necessary items.  The Food Committee organizes several fellowship meals during the year, including the Lenten and Advent meals, Easter breakfast, and special occasion meals.  We send goodie care packages to our Zion students attending schools away from home.

Our women are especially mission minded and support WELS missionaries through our "Befriend a Mission" projects, as well as supporting other synod organizations, such as the African Medical Mission, Calvary Academy, East Fork Mission and others. There are no dues or fundraisers.  All donations are completely free will and are used for our mission of serving one another in love.

Visit us!  Perhaps you will want to join us.  If you have any questions, call 262-369-0803 and speak to Lois Kluender who is on our Membership Committee.
