3rd & 4th Grade Curriculum

One of my goals as a Christian educator is to foster God fearing lifelong learners.  Here at Zion, everything is taught in the light of God’s Word. For the 2018-2019 School Year we will be focusing on the following for each content area:

ChristLight: We will be focusing on the New Testament this year starting with Gabriel announces the birth of John and Jesus and ending with Saul Becomes a Believer, as well as having daily devotions and Hymnology lessons that follow the hymns of the Church calendar.

Math will be 3rd and 4th grade respectively with differentiated instruction on an as needed basis.

Reading: The year will start off by using the Reading Textbook for grades 3 and 4 respectively as the first few chapters are review from the previous years content.  As the year goes on, whole group mini lessons will be taught on a specific strategy or concept and applied to a chapter book. These chapter book units will be grouped according to individual reading level.

Science / Social Studies: Science will be the focus for first semester with emphasis on Life Science and Health.  Social Studies will be the focus for second semester with emphasis on Regions.

Word Study will be focusing on the Spelling Connections textbook for grades 3 and 4 respectively.

Grammar / Writing:  This will again be 3rd/4th grade respectively with some whole group lessons when the content in each grade level connects.

Physical Education will incorporate a variety of physical skills and activities.

Art will be based off of the Art Attack curriculum, as well as different projects that connect with the time of year, ie -- Thanksgiving and Christmas projects.

Music: Mrs. Kari Hahm will be the music teacher.

In order to keep a safe and fun learning environment, we follow the following rules in the 3rd/4th grade classroom:

1. Respect the teacher and peers.
2. Respect the tools you work with.
3. Be prepared for class.
4. Follow classroom procedures.

Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
