3rd & 4th Grade Curriculum

One of my goals as a Christian educator is to foster God fearing lifelong learners.  Here at Zion, everything is taught in the light of God’s Word. For the 2019-2020 School Year we will be focusing on the following for each content area:

ChristLight: We will be focusing on the Old Testament this year starting with Creation and finishing with Job.

Math will be 3rd and 4th grade respectively with differentiated instruction on an as needed basis.

Reading: The year will start off by using the Reading Textbook for grades 3 and 4 respectively focusing on different comprehension skills as the weeks go on.  The comprehensions skill of the week will be the same for both grades but will be focused on in their respective textbooks.  Although we will follow the guide on the Reading Textbook, there will be some weeks that we take a break and work on chapter books.  Specifically during December and then again during April and May.

Science / Social Studies: Science will be the focus for first semester with emphasis on Earth Science and Health.  Social Studies will be the focus for second semester with emphasis on Wisconsin History.

Word Study will be focusing on the Spelling Connections textbook for grades 3 and 4 respectively.

Grammar / Writing:  This will be taught 3rd/4th grade respectively with some whole group lessons when the content in each grade level connects.

Physical Education will incorporate a variety of physical skills and activities.

Art will be based off of different art skills and a project that goes along with that skill.

Music: Mrs. Kari Hahm will be the music teacher.

In order to keep a safe and fun learning environment, we follow the following rules in the 3rd/4th grade classroom:

1. Respect the teacher and peers.
2. Respect the tools you work with.
3. Be prepared for class.
4. Follow classroom procedures.

Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
